First Glimpses of Baby Pearce

We found out we were having a girl at our 19 week ultrasound - What an awesome experience!

We'd had ultrasounds at 8 weeks and 12 weeks, but neither were as exciting as the 19 week ultrasound where we would find out the sex of the baby.  Both of us had 'feelings' it was going to be a girl, but it was definitely nice to have the confirmation.  More important than the baby's sex, we also found out that the baby had 10 fingers and 10 toes, a spine that was growing well, and good heart function.  It was pretty neat to see all of these tiny bones and babies organs growing together inside of me. 

 Next time we see her will be on the 'outside'!

    I didn't know you guys were having a girl, well maybe I did lol I have 11 friends having babies this year so I can't keep track! Hope the next 8 weeks go by in a flash!

Welcome Evelyn Grace!

Evelyn Grace came into the world at 11:36 p.m. on Wednesday October 22nd, 2014 - exactly a week before her due date.  She was a healthy 7 lbs 1 oz and measured 20 inches long, and we couldn't be happier with her.  Here is the story of her birth and first few days - definitely the most exciting and happy time of my life thus far.    It's a long post... I had my 39 week doctors appointment on Tuesday morning of this week, and was pretty excited to find out that I was already 3 cm dilated (not in labour, but a good sign that baby was moving in the right direction).  The doctor also did a membrane sweep at this appointment - this can be a labour induction technique but only really works if the baby is ready.  Anyway - I went on with my work day and noticed some cramping (can be an effect of the membrane sweep for up to 24 hours).  That evening and through the night the cramping continued, but I was still able to sleep for the most part (thank goodness)...

The longest shortest month

Life isn't always fun - I know that normally this blog is filled with happy posts about how great Evie is doing and the fun things we've been up to lately. This past month has still been great on that front, but it has also been difficult for another reason.  In the span of 2 weeks we went from being excited about adding another baby to our family to learning that the pregnancy wasn't likely to be viable and then later confirming a miscarriage.

Our baby is one!

I've come to the conclusion that being a parent is just one big time warp  - Some days can feel like an eternity when you are stuck inside the house with a teething baby and seemingly attention-starved preschooler - but man, does the year fly by! I must say, that seeing my "baby" turn one year old today, definitely brought on a few emotions :)
