Two Weeks Old

Evelyn is two weeks old now and it is pretty crazy how much she is changing each day.  She is getting more alert and aware of her surroundings.  We have done a lot in the last couple weeks surprisingly--luckily we've been blessed with a very good baby.

When Evelyn was born we had to go out and buy newborn sized clothes (I didn't even realize there were newborn clothes, but she was swimming in all of her 0-3 month clothes).  She is growing quickly though and already getting too big for some of those newborn clothes.  She's come out of her sleepy phase a little more and is starting to stretch out her legs now, getting out of that fetal position.  She usually has a few periods of alertness during the day and is just taking in the world around her - I am looking forward to when she starts to recognize faces a bit more.  She responds to our voices though.  When we do tummy time with her she is getting good at lifting her head and turning from side to side.  The feeding is still going well, and she sometimes eats a little too quickly - I apparently have an over-active milk ejection release, which can make her eat too much too quickly.  There have been a few pretty messy puking situations as a result.  She doesn't seem to upset about it though....just adds to the laundry pile.  She is sleeping well - generally letting me sleep for 2.5-3 hour stretches with an hour of feeding/changing/rocking in between, so I'm not too sleep deprived yet.  I am definitely not complaining since I am sleeping much better now than when I was pregnant.

Baby exercise time - aka tummy time

We have managed to get out and be social a fair amount over the past couple weeks.  Lots of friends have come by the house to visit - and have come armed with pre-cooked meals, which has been amazing and really helpful (we haven't had to cook a dinner yet, and I haven't even touched the freezer meals that I cooked the weekend before she came).

Evelyn came to book club with me last week, so she was pretty popular there.   A couple other friends in book club are expecting in the next few months, so there is lots of interest in new babies.  She even lost her umbilical cord stump so that was exciting (and I am glad it's gone, it wasn't the nicest thing to look at)

Evie's First Book Club

We didn't know if she was going to be here by Halloween, so had nothing prepared.  We spent way too much time shopping for a newborn-sized costume, which was unsuccessful.  We decided to go as a family of mice (all built around off a cute hat that a friend gave to Evie).  We handed out candy to about 150-200 kids who stopped by our place and then went to a Halloween party at our friends Mac and Jocelyn's place.  The day after Halloween we went to a friend's housewarming party - I think we've been more social this last week than in the last year :)

Evie's First Halloween

Craig went back to work on Monday of this week.  It was really nice having him home for the first week and a half, and a really relaxing way to spend time off (as opposed to rushing to the airport after a work day and going on a busy and tiring vacation - the usual way we spend time off).  As nice as it was though, it couldn't last forever.  So I have been trying to get into new routines here at home. So far it has been going well - I am just learning to get used to the fact that it takes a lot longer to get ready to leave the house now and I need to lower my expectations in terms of how much housework will actually get done in a day.

Yesterday morning we had some newborn pictures taken, which went reasonably well except for when Evie threw up all over herself 5 minutes before the photographer was supposed to arrive - so that forced me to give her a bath for the first time on my own :)  We'll see how the pictures turn out in the next couple weeks.

I've managed to get out and walk the dogs everyday so far - it only takes me a half hour to get ready for that.  We have been lucky with the weather this year - next week may be a different story.  She seems to like the bumpy stroller ride through the dog park and usually just sleeps the whole time.   Breastfeeding in the dog park was another first that happened this week....anything to keep her happy.

Enjoying the seasonally warm weather and walking without a baby on the inside (so nice to have that weight literally lifted off my pelvis)

The dogs are pretty good with the stroller now....just takes a couple times of getting their paws run over to learn to walk on the side.

Treats were involved in taking this picture :)
